Yh I used Gimp for years and began my digital art journey with it. It does have it's problems though. One of the reasons I've recently moved to Krita, which is really good so far. Recommended if you want something geared more towards art.

I have a similar looking character but with a leaf over her mouth and 2 large petals forming a cape. Just imagine a Poison Ivy type that was always heroic.
